The international seminar "Logistics in the Barents region"  

The international seminar "Logistics in the Barents region was held on the 23rd of November in Murmansk. Seminar venue - nuclear icebreaker “Lenin”. Seminar program included the following issues:

- About the project implementation “Complex development of Murmansk Transport Hub”
- Project for development of port special economic zone on the territory of Murmansk Port,
- Formation of international oil and gas cluster in the Arctic,
- Development of North Sea Route,
- Logistics challenges in the cross – border operations: SMEs’ point of view,
- And also during the seminar Port of Oulu (Finland), Murmansk branch of OOCL, a company – project participant TurnHillAB,
  Skelleftea (Sweden) presented themselves.

About 80 representatives of companies from Murmansk region, Northern Finland and Sweden, from scientific and educational organizations of the region participated in the seminar.

Seminar participants discussed the issues of coordinated development of transport system of the Barents region, barriers in the cross – border operations. “Barents Logistics 2” project, its objective, purpose, main activities and results were presented on the seminar.  Representatives of the following companies from the Murmansk region are going to participate in the training program and exchange trips:

- JSC “Murmansk Sea Trade Port”,
- Transport Division of MMC Norilsk Nickel,
- JSC “Murmansk Shipping Company”,
- Murmansk branch of “Belomortrans”,
- Murmansk branch of OOCL,
- Murmansk branch of CJSC “ControlUnion” ,
- LLC “Murmansk Logistics Company”,
- ADR CARGO,
- IE Spirochkin.

On the 24th of November 2011, Finnish and Swedish project partners visited Russian enterprises. Participants had a possibility to find out more about companies’ history, production capacity, results of work and plans for future development and also to ask questions.

On the 25th of November 2011 in the Arctic Center, professor of Oulu University, Jari Juga and professor of Lulea Technology University, Anders Segerstedt gave lecture for project participants. The lecture material was formed in connection with companies needs and demands. Program of practice-oriented training and exchange visits will have a continuation in Kemi (Finland) in the March-April of 2012.
